What is a combined slip ring?
A combined slip ring, also known as a composite slip ring or multi-channel slip ring, is an electromechanical device used to transmit power, signals, or data between a rotating part and a stationary part. It consists of multiple slip rings, each responsible for a specific circuit connection. These slip rings can be conductive metal rings that transfer current or signals through carbon brushes or other types of brushes in contact with them.
The characteristic of a combined slip ring is that it can handle many different types of signal and power requirements at the same time. For example, in a wind turbine, a combined slip ring can be used to transmit control signals, power output, and possibly communication data, all within the same physical structure, thereby simplifying the mechanical design and improving the reliability of the system.
